Doc really is fine, just busy...
Just got a brief txt from Doc. His organization's web site was hacked, and he's been swamped with the recovery process since last night. He's probably operating on very little (if any) sleep! We needn't worry.

Sigh. Woulda been faster to post that himself then what he did.

Yeah, but you've seen Doc operating on little sleep...
fabunobo From: fabunobo Date: December 4th, 2008 08:34 pm (UTC) (Link)
Does he often hallucinate you into the room?

I know I do ... naked!
belmikey From: belmikey Date: December 4th, 2008 08:41 pm (UTC) (Link)
Depending on just how long his sleep deprivation goes on, it's not impossible that he'll not only hallucinate us into the room with him, but hallucinate himself into whatever rooms we're in.

Projective hallucination! It's what's for dinner!

Do NOT get me started on this subject.

I get flashbacks of a tiring road trip in my ex-husband's VW bug from Oswego to Rochester during college.

*shudders*

I can imagine! I've seen him a couple times a little tired and he's told me of a couple scary incidents.
kinsfire From: kinsfire Date: December 5th, 2008 03:34 pm (UTC) (Link)
Are you talking about the incident where he channeled someone working at RIT? *laugh*

THat was an INTERESTING weekend, I will say.
aylinn From: aylinn Date: December 5th, 2008 03:45 pm (UTC) (Link)
What OTHER weekend were you, Rick, Kara & I stuffed into Spot? I may have blanked on various things, but that weekend is indelible.

Yes, which makes me wonder why he thinks he's competent, in that state, to fix anything. Sleep is good...
verymelm From: verymelm Date: December 4th, 2008 08:50 pm (UTC) (Link)
If you know something well enough, you don't need your mind to actually engage; you just need to let it *do* 'cause it knows what needs to be done and conscious thought would just get in the way.
belmikey From: belmikey Date: December 4th, 2008 08:51 pm (UTC) (Link)
That's a great theory, but I've tried fixing computer problems according to that theory in the past and found that I would have been better off simply taking the broken server offline and taking a nap.

Platipi!!!!!!
callusdew From: callusdew Date: December 4th, 2008 09:16 pm (UTC) (Link)
Yes, and this is why it makes those of us who have seen him operate like that very, very nervous...
dansr From: dansr Date: December 4th, 2008 09:01 pm (UTC) (Link)
That answers my questions! :D Thanks for the heads up!
aylinn From: aylinn Date: December 4th, 2008 09:35 pm (UTC) (Link)
Hello again.

I generally try to be polite & not add FOAF LJs if I haven't met them directly. Hence the reason I hadn't added you in all these years.

Now who wants to set up the volley ball net over Pennsylvania so we can bounce the silly Hobbit a few times between us?

I figure the Ithaca crew can serve first as you're more likely to snag him as he heads over to Rome one of these weekends.

Stupid Hobbitses...

Can members of the Boston contingent referee? Or, perhaps, join the practice squad?
aylinn From: aylinn Date: December 4th, 2008 10:15 pm (UTC) (Link)
well, if we make it a game of "hot potato" we can go round robin. I can probably get My ex & his wife in NJ to grab a few volleys

oh, oh! I KNOW!

DOUBLES TENNIS!!!

Ithaca & Boston vs MD & NJ over a net across the southern tier!

How's that sound?
callusdew From: callusdew Date: December 4th, 2008 10:16 pm (UTC) (Link)
Sold!
aylinn From: aylinn Date: December 4th, 2008 10:20 pm (UTC) (Link)
Well, then you get to serve first as you have the best chance of snagging the "ball".

Let me know when to volley back...
callusdew From: callusdew Date: December 4th, 2008 10:21 pm (UTC) (Link)
Soon...
kinsfire From: kinsfire Date: December 5th, 2008 03:36 pm (UTC) (Link)
I'm in!

(For those who don't know, I'm the ex.)
aylinn From: aylinn Date: December 5th, 2008 03:46 pm (UTC) (Link)
So can we count you, Dorothy & the jersey crew in for the game?

*evil grin*

ETA - whups! misread that. Cool. we have game!

If only I'd stuck around Boston a couple of extra days!
aylinn From: aylinn Date: December 4th, 2008 10:18 pm (UTC) (Link)
You'll have your chance. Or if we go for the Doubles match as I suggested above, we can have Callusdew serve first!

*Evil Grin*

Even though we've never met in person, I have no objection if you find my journal worth adding!

Rome's almost as much of a pain to get to from here as Boston is -- though as I discovered on Sunday, driving back from Boston sucks in freezing rain.

I even searched Doc's LJ for possible scenarios in which Doc could be right. It was hard work.
phoenixmedusa From: phoenixmedusa Date: December 5th, 2008 11:36 am (UTC) (Link)

OMG!

I read his post and was freaking out thinking it must have been the death of someone or his house burned down or something.
Gahhhhh
Im glad to hear it was something that can be fixed and did not involve a funeral.
I would like to join the team forming to bat him around a bit...lol
I have added you to my friends list if you want to add me back...Its Rauncie and we have met ....shadowy one.
