God Bless America
At 3 p.m. today, a plane carrying 28,000 deep-dish pizzas for the troops is scheduled to take off from John F. Kennedy airport. It won’t get delivered until July 4, when troops in Iraq and Afghanistan will have what organizers of Pizzas 4 Patriots say will be the biggest pizza party ever held. (The Guinness World Book of Records has been notified).

And how much of my tax dollar is this taking up? Tax dollars that could be used to bring these people home from where they're not doing any good and where they could be having deep-dish pizzas here?

Make no mistake: I appreciate what these folks think they're trying to do. I appreciate their bravery in trying to do what they, and we, have been told they're doing. I have, however, grave, grave doubts as to the reality, and effectiveness, of anything that is being done in Iraq or Afghanistan.

Our service men and women, the best on the planet, show their bravery every day at every hour, based on what they've been told they are doing and why. It sickens me that the reality of the sitaution is that thousands of service lives, and hundreds of thousands of civilians have needlessly been sacrificed based on the results we've garnered.

I said when this started 10+ years ago that this was our generation's Vietnam; a useless war we would completely lose. I've never wavered from that stance.

Oh yea! We're excited because we're giving them the biggest pizza party in the world! How about we do something real and get them the hell home so that their marriages can survive and they can actually see their children grow up?

And yea, don't tell me I'm in a bad mood. I know that. I'm fighting with a moronic iCal server/program. :-)

the article referenced above indicates that the pizza and the shipping were donated.

I still want them to come home so they can eat their own deep-dish pizzas sand free with their partners and their kids.

As long as I don't have the schedule the party in my stupid iCal server right now! :-)

You should read before you start ranting. There's lots wrong with our military presence in the Middle East, but it has nothing to do with thoughtful, generous individuals and corporations donating private money, time, and services to bring a little comfort to our dedicated service members.

Point taken! Point very well taken.

However, I'll still stand by what I told Mazzie: I want them to come home so they can eat their own deep-dish pizzas sand free with their partners and their kids.

As long as I don't have the schedule the party in my stupid iCal server right now! :-)
