Disorienting...
There's nothing quite as disorienting as trying to find just a few items you need in a supermarket that's not your regular one. If you're doing a whole shopping trip, you can meander up and down each aisle, but if you just need three things, it's a real challenge!

I managed to find generic Sudafed, granola bars, and Cascade diswasher gelpacks at Wegmans tonight, after eating dinner upstairs at the Market Café with friends. It wasn't a bad dinner, featuring a small pasta-bar serving of whole wheat spirals with shrimp, artichoke hearts, broccoli, and mushrooms topped with a little each of Alfredo sauce and red pepper pesto. I also had a little of the panang tofu, since a couple of people had suggested trying the Thai on the Asian bar. All tasty if not incredibly exciting, and at under $10 with a bottle of iced tea, it was a pretty good deal. I'm not going to get in the habit of heading to Wegmans for food, but just as I've enjoyed a few of their subs in the past, I won't hesitate to grab something tasty if I happen to be there. (Of course, I tend not to happen to be there.)

Shopping at a new grocery store is, for me, equal parts thrilling and terrifying. I love seeing how they're set up and all the different products they have, but if I'm in the mood to get in and get out… Eeeeeek!

Wegman's is my regular grocery store, and I have to admit that I often find it as baffling as you did tonight. They have a practice of moving entire sections around every few months. Just when I re-learn where to find things reliably, they reconfigure again.

I'm a big fan of the fresh pasta station. I regularly get a half order of the whole wheat spirals with veggies and either the Fresh Plum Tomato sauce or the Basil Pesto sauce. With my appetite, that plus a bag of salad and a roll feeds me for two nights (with salad left over).

I had an evening a while back when I needed to do the grocery shopping while Maddy was swimming at the Y. I decided that I'd to it at the Tops by the mall instead of driving all the way to Wegmans. By the time I finished crossing and re-crossing the store looking for stuff, it would have been faster for me to drive to Weggies (since it is a store I know).

On the other hand, their current organizational scheme is mostly opaque to me, and I often have trouble finding specific items.

I know what you mean ! Wegman's makes me nuts, there's something about the place that sends me into sensory overload ... although, I have managed to find my way to the natural foods areas. Anything else, I'm lost. TOPS up by the mall is also confusing for me, mostly becuse their stuff doesn't seem to be organized into any sort of order that my logic can follow.

I miss Wegman's SO much. I keep sending them love letters trying to persuade them to come to Long Island but so far, it is an unrequited love.
