Sunset over Cayuga

An awful lot of people are bitching this afternoon about the sun setting so early.
Wonder if some of them are the same folks who were insisting we should abolish Daylight Saving Time.

Maybe we should just make DST permanent. :-)

I think we should abolish DST. It's stupid and annoying to have to change the clocks twice a year when we no longer live in a society where we're ruled by the rising and setting of the sun. I lived in Arizona long enough to appreciate not having to worry about the time changing. It was great.

we also live in a society were many (most?) of the clocks automatically change! :-P

Not where I live and work. And now because someone decided to change it to different days, the ones that used to be automatic get to be manually changed 4 times a year!!

I wouldn't mind the earlier sunset so much if I didn't have a two-mile walk home alone in the dark every evening. It's particularly spooky over winter break when everyone's gone and Collegetown pretty much shuts down. Also there's the part where my office has no windows, so that hour between when I wake up in the morning and arrive at work is pretty much the only daylight I see all day :(

I've been doing better about getting outside at lunchtime for more than the 30 seconds it takes to go get a sandwich.

I don't care which we do, my objection is to the twice-yearly change.

Yes, this. It's not that I mind when it gets dark or light, it's the sudden shift and resetting of the biological/internal clock to the exterior/work-day clock that it forces. If we just let things be on the same "clock" year-round, my circadian rhythms would be a lot more stable.

Pretties!!

Also. Just wanted to say that I love central time- I can watch all the prime time shows I want and still get to bed at 10! :-)

i hate it getting dark early. it makes me all sorts of depressed, because i am not a morning person and thus don't get up early enough to be in the light enough :[

I will bitch both about the sun setting so early *and* say we should abolish DST.

Why is this not a contradiction? Because the sun set an hour "earlier" on Sunday than on Saturday, not just a couple of minutes earlier. I'm not bitching that sunset is at 4:58; I'm bitching that two days ago it was at 6:00. If it had been at 5:00 two days ago, I wouldn't be bitching about it today.

I don't mind the 'falling back' too much - because falling back means I don't have to drive to work at 6am in the pitch dark. On the other end, my sleep patterns are abnormal for a couple *weeks* after the 'spring ahead' happens, there's something about losing that hour that screws things up. I think they should just leave it alone, since we are no longer an agriculture-based society.

This is a beautiful picture! But when I looked out my window and saw that it was dark before 6 I was bummed!

And I hate DST. Every friggin' time it screws up my kid's sleeping routine. Although these days it doesn't really seem to matter.

I lived in an area where the clocks didn't change and it was a much more natural transition between seasons.

I vote get rid of changing the clocks!
