Two state troopers, one dispatcher killed in house fire?
When I saw the @BreakingNews headline "House fire in Zillah, Wash., reportedly kills two state troopers, one dispatcher," I figured state troopers arriving on scene before the fire department got there could have been killed valiantly trying to rescue inhabitants without the proper gear, but couldn't imagine how the dispatcher got involved.

It turned out the dispatcher and her husband, one of the state troopers, lived in the residence, and the other trooper was staying at the home, as well. Still tragic, but not the line-of-duty deaths I was picturing at first glance.

My first thought upon reading your post was that it was a really small town, and the trooper barracks was in a converted house or something like that.
