The workplace coffee conundrum (214.0)
"Oh no they did not!" exclaimed Juan, as I lamented aloud that some asshat had left the thermal coffee carafe at work with a half ounce of coffee in it, instead of brewing the next pot. [That was this morning, and I'm resuming typing mid-afternoon!]

He went on to suggest that lots more people like drinking coffee than like brewing it, to which my answer is that there are plenty of establishments available to cater to those who'd rather drink coffee they aren't responsible for brewing.

Yep... I go get a cup of coffee from Collegetown bagels or the place in Duffield Hall.

Unfortunately, the choices in Mattin's in Duffield Hall are hazelnut, vanilla, decaf, or weak. The "medium roast" Colombian tastes like dishwater, and not in a good way. :-P I've begged them to put on a more full-bodied or darker roast, and they say "But we have all these choices!" I think they're missing the point of coffee. But if that's what their clientele wants...

I'm still trying to find a place I can quickly walk to to get coffee. I miss Coal House.

Coffee-flavored Coffee!

Flavored coffee means, "Without the flavoring, this would taste like week-old ass." I keep flavored non-dairy creamer in the house in case I try a new roast and it tastes like the above-mentioned ass.

I again do not lament my decision to stop drinking coffee when I realized I didn't really like it.

Not to detract from your post,.but what happened to the Coal House?

All I know is that they didn't reopen after their mid-August "vacation," and the business is for sale. I don't think they ever quite got the hang of operating a full-time eatery with such limited staff, and the unpredictable hours made it tough to rely on them, which hurt the business.

The unfortunate conumdrum of small food establishments everywhere ... if you can't do the time, you won't make a dime ...

"Jerry, if you think that by threatening me you can get me to be your slave... Well, that's where you're right. But - and I am only saying this because I care - there are a lot of decaffeinated brands on the market today that are just as tasty as the real thing." -Chris Knight, Real Genius
