This morning's meeting included a brief but lively discussion about the nature of blogs, in the context of discussing CIT's planned blog service. (It's intended mostly for faculty and staff for projects and courses, not for public personal blog use.)

Is a blog more or less another mechanism for doing the same thing as an e-mail mailing list?

In other news, people who need caffeine first thing in the morning should not have to think about paying for it. One of my colleagues just walked away from the cashier without the change from his $20. I got a Jimmy Dean breakfast sandwich to go with my coffee. (Mmm, grease.) That's one of the few positives to these morning meetings on campus... I can once in a while treat myself to one of these.

The judges would also have accepted "Sir Mark the Prickly of Lesser Cheese Winston." But I really liked "His Eminence the Very Lord Mark the Sheepish of Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch."

SOE was here when I got here, working on taking apart and reassembling my cube. (I intentionally did some errands before coming here.) I'm hanging out in the conference room until they're done, which I'm hoping will be pretty soon. I'd like to get a lot of moving-in and unpacking done before I leave today, so I can come in after the break and just sit down to work.

When I need to move all my stuff up two flights of stairs is the perfect time for the air conditioning in the building to be down. Or is the heat on?

In other news, I'm impressed with the Caribou Coffee Vanilla Latte chewy granola bar. I spotted these and other varieties while in the breakfast aisle last night stocking up on oatmeal and the like for the office. It's a good granola bar (though not the largest of them) with a layer of "vanilla latte" yogurt coating on the bottom.

And, here's David Pogue talking about Windows Vista for the New York Times.

J.R. just came into my office to ask how to spell it. Word's spell checker is accepting it either way, and of course letting him spell it both ways. (Spell checkers should note consistency or lack thereof.)

"email" vs "e-mail"?

"web site" vs "Web site" vs "website"?

My answers... )

Microsoft Word just unexpectedly quit. I guess on the positive side, that gives me a moment to remember to blink while I relaunch it and see how much of what I've been working on for the last hour is still there.

All of it. Woo! Here's to saving frequently.

Today hasn't been bad, just non-stop busy, with the exception of a midday interlude to have lunch with my friend Joel. He's a fraternity brother, but far enough removed from my era that I only vaguely knew him, but he also used to work for CIT, so I got to know him better. I mostly see him in random places like Pixel, and when we chatted there on Tuesday night, we came up with the tentative lunch plans.

My salty fish over chicken fried rice was great -- Hai Hong does the "usual" Chinese food, but also enough of their own specialties that you don't normally think of if you're used to the pedestrian sorts of eateries. They look at me funny when I order something their caucasian customers generally don't. I get over it. :-)

Couple more blinks, and now back to Word to finish this report. Thanks to those of you who've been providing a little IM distraction so I don't go nuts.

The DVD of Dan's presentation that I was going to bring to campus for him was in my hand before I left my office for this meeting (my sixth of the day), but it doesn't seem to have made it here.

Good thing I went to sleep early last night; today has been crazy, with the first meeting beginning an hour before the nominal start of my workday. Luckily I got to have lunch with a friend in between my 11-12 meeting and my 1-2 meeting. :-) Nice walk down to Little Thai House in Collegetown, in perfect weather. I like mid 50s! Though I may have to turn on the heat in the house soon; it was 64 degrees upstairs when I got up.

Green tea is good.

"That'll be... strong...," said Ron as I tipped all of the freshly ground Peet's Espresso Forte into the filter in the new thermal coffee pot. We took some of the grounds out to save for later, lest the brew be undrinkably strong.

It's the first time I've opened the bag of beans I brought back from San Francisco earlier this month; we dove into [info]roosterhillfarm's Major Dickason right after I got back with it.

Just poured myself a cup, and it's great... very tasty, strong coffee without being too strong. I'll also have to take the bag home to try making espresso with it. And then maybe record another [info]caffeineland podcast.
