The details are still pretty conflicting, but apparently there was a major fire at the F.X. Matt Brewery in Utica that started late this afternoon. As best I can tell at the moment, the fire started in the 100-year-old bottling building in a machine that makes plastic six-pack rings. Lots of homes in the area were evacuated, and as of a few hours ago, firefighters were still working to keep the fire from spreading to the next-door brewery building. All the brewery employees made it out, with a couple of smoke inhalation cases.
F.X. Matt is probably best known for Saranac beer, but they also make a lot of Utica Club. It's the oldest brewery in New York, and the second-oldest family-owned brewery in the U.S., after Yuengling.
Bedtime. Hope the fire's put out without too much damage to the business or any further injuries!
