New cat (209.8) - Mark's Journal
New cat (209.8)
Since my parents are visiting this weekend, my mother ordered a family-pack copy of Snow Leopard delivered to my office yesterday. Unfortunately, FedEx didn't deliver it to me, but to some random office a few buildings away, and we didn't figure out where it was until late evening. The result will probably be that Apple has to send a new copy to my parents, since there's no way to get it over the weekend, and I'm certainly not shipping it to my parents at my (or their) expense.

Meantime, I'd already gotten a copy of Snow Leopard, and having verified that Eudora launches on Snow Leopard, I thought, I installed it on my laptop. Unfortunately, it doesn't launch. I'll probably have to back up my laptop, reinstall a clean copy of Snow Leopard, restore my data, and then try again and hope it works. All the derisive "You shouldn't still be using Eudora" comments don't make Mail work for me. It just doesn't handle my e-mail universe, even after spending hours importing and converting and fiddling. I pretty much already knew it wouldn't, but being forced into it, I was hoping to make it work.

People who tell you things like "don't use Eudora" are doofuses.

Thoughtful gift on your Mom's part, too bad Fedex had to drop the ball.

Congratulations on the weight loss. It's great how you can set your mind on a goal and attain it, not everyone can do that. Looks like Snow Leopard is next on your agenda!

Actually, my comment was that you shouldn't have installed 10.X.0, but then figured this came from a boy who installed Fedora Core 10 on his main work server 3 days after its release.

But then I remembered it was Aaron who did that so I'm still justified - why did you install 10.X.0??

Interestingly Dr. Templeton's comments to me yesterday was, "Where's my Snow Leopard?" Matt hasn't wanted any OS upgrade since 10.3 and has stated to me on more than one occcasion that he hates 10.5, so this sorta freaked me out.

Both Aaron and I are looking forward to 10.6, but I'm not installing it on anything unitl 10.6.1.

Have you ever tried Thunderbird? And does T-bird run on Mac OS's?

I've tried Thunderbird. Thunderbird runs on Macs.

T-Bird has pretty much the same functionality as Eudora...and it imports Eudora too IIRC.....

Good luck with getting Eudora to launch. I have been using Eudora for ~15(?) years and it's still my favorite email client :-)

Congratulations on the 209.8 :-)

I still miss Eudora. I use Mail, but Eudora had the elegance that only comes from an application being guided by one person's vision of How It Should Be, and not hacked to hell in design-by-committee. Now, it also had the downside of not being good about things that Dorner thought were bullshit. But if your bullshit meter is well-aligned with his, you're golden.

*sigh* You can't have it all, I guess. Good luck getting Eudora to run.
