CharosetThat's Hebrew for "Happy Passover!" (More or less.) Unlike Hanukkah, which is a cool but relatively unimportant Jewish holiday that's gotten puffed up alongside Christmas, Passover really is an important holiday in Jewish tradition. It's the most significant of the "They tried to kill us, we survived, let's eat!" celebrations. :-)

Today for the first time I made my own Charoset, essentially a chopped apple and walnut salad sweetened with brown sugar and moistened with sweet wine. It's used to represent the mortar used by Hebrew slaves in Egypt who spent generations building the Pyramids. It's pretty tasty stuff! It'll make a good breakfast tomorrow. I bet it would be good baked into pastry, too, if it weren't Passover...
