Startina Bentley didn't even hear the alarm go off, but her eyes flew open when she heard her 3-year-old daughter yelling, "Mommy, mommy, it's a fire, it's a fire!" Bentley's first hero, 3-year-old Tamanii, recognized the sound of the smoke detector and knew what to do about it, in part, because her day care center had recently received training from the Ithaca Fire Department, she said.
