A day without Facebook

Thanks to marrus for the idea of Facebook Intervention Day, which was yesterday. I decided to expand it to Twitter, as well, so I spent all of yesterday pretty much disconnected from Facebook and Twitter. That it ended up being the day I took off from work was purely a coincidence, but to be honest, it probably made it easier.

I did see a couple of notifications fly by in e-mail, but ignored them until today. Saving yesterday's birthday wishes for today felt odd, but I'm over it. ;-) Hopefully no one was horrifically offended. And, luckily, my iPhone tells me when someone mentions me on Twitter, so I got to see Nathan's invitation to his birthday dinner just in time to join his family at Bandwagon.

I enjoy the connections and relationships that Facebook and Twitter enable and cultivate, but I also enjoyed the quiet, disconnected day. It certainly helped me get some tidying done around the house! That's important, since I've got houseguests coming for the holiday weekend.

Today, Twitter and Facebook are largely focused on a friend's death in a car accident last night, so while I'm glad I'm up to date, I'm also not thrilled to be back.
