Lots of cooking this weekend...

I put the crock pot that's on loan to my kitchen to good use this weekend, making two batches of chili (one with meat, one vegan) and some pulled pork that I'm going to sample when I get home in a bit.

It occurred to me as I was ladling the vegan chili into containers to refrigerate that I had completely forgotten the kidney beans! Ah well, no great loss... beans aren't my favourite part of chili anyway. The meat and chunks of tomato tend to be what I enjoy.

The "veggie crumbles" worked out pretty well, though I had to make up for the fact that they aren't spicy at all. Since I usually use spicy Italian sausage for about half the meat when I make chili (the rest is just ground beef), this wouldn't be as spicy without adding extra heat in other ways. I tasted this batch as I was putting it away, and it was very tasty.

The pork smelled incredibly good this morning; I guess I did OK in my choice of ingredients.

I'm a little behind on eating, since I never really had a proper dinner Saturday. I suspect I'll catch up eventually.
