I wrote about Grant Imahara last year... (209.2)

Sad to learn last night that Grant Imahara has died suddenly, apparently following a brain aneurysm.

I always loved seeing his work, so I had fun writing a brief bio in an article last year: Roboticist Grant Imahara will welcome young scientists to Ithaca as Science Olympiad keynote speaker

Imahara, who’s delivering a keynote address on Friday evening, May 31st, is an electronics and radio control expert, as well as an animatronics engineer and robot builder who created an irreverent robot sidekick named Geoff Peterson for Craig Ferguson’s “Late Late Show.” He has a Bachelor of Science degree in electrical engineering from the University of Southern California, and spent nine years working behind the scenes for George Lucas’s Industrial Light and Magic on such blockbusters as Galaxy Quest and Terminator 3, as well as putting the lights in R2-D2’s dome for the Star Wars prequels, before stepping in front of the camera himself.
