Nikon Me

Playing with a new lens (211.2)

Slowly but surely, I've been adding to my stable of camera gear, and the latest item is a 35mm f/1.8 lens courtesy of a Hanukkah gift from my parents. It's my first lens that doesn't let you zoom at all, which is taking some getting used to! Not being able to zoom out to 18mm, the widest point on the 18-55mm lens that came with the camera, sometimes means backing up to get everything in the shot. But the f/1.8 aperture lets in so much more light in the same amount of time that this lens will be great for taking low-light pictures without using the flash.

Downtown at Night Breakfast

These photos are a look across the street at the DeWitt Mall downtown last night, and yesterday's breakfast. I didn't notice until I was looking at the picture online that I'd captured not just the steam from the coffee mug, but also steam from the omelet. This lens should be perfect for food pictures in dim restaurants! Click to embiggen.

The lens should also do well for portraits in some cases, though better lighting and a longer lens than this will usually make for better portraits.

Pad your recordings!

FOX's late football game ran long, so "The Simpsons" started about 15 minutes late. That, "The Simpsons 20th Anniversary Special: In 3D! On Ice!", and "The Cleveland Show" will all run late.
