Playing with Yik Yak (210.0)

A friend in another university communications office pointed out Yik Yak, a new app designed for localized messaging. It's actually a little like Twinkle in that sense; that was based on the Twitter platform but you could see who was talking around you within a specified radius, rather than just people you followed, so it was great for discovering people around you.

I guess I'm the only person who's installed the thing in Ithaca so far, because the app says there are no local "yaks" to display, so it's showing some "best of" messages from other areas. My favorite? "How do blind people know when to stop wiping their asses?"

A colleague from one of the departments we work with a lot, whose wife just died of cancer two months ago, had a heart attack over the weekend. Luckily it was while he was working out at a fitness center on campus, so there were people around who could call for help.
