What a great day!

Other than the suboptimal weather for most of the drive back to Ithaca, I had an excellent day. Brunch at the Ritz-Carlton was fantastic, probably the best I've ever had. The staff at Maestro (the restaurant in the hotel) was a bit disorganized, but that seems to be par for the course there. The food, though, was incredible, with an array of fancy cold cuts, smoked salmon, three different kinds of caviar, various crab and lobster dishes, wild mushroom ravioli, filet mignon, spaghetti squash, salads of various kinds, lots of fresh bread, and a dozen different desserts. Champagne, fresh squeezed juice, coffee, tea, etc. While I'm glad I didn't have to pay for it, I have to say it was probably worth every penny of the $61 per adult that they charge.

The rest of my family hit the road pretty quickly after brunch, but I stuck around. dharmabumx drove over to meet me so we could hang out for a little bit before the afternoon's football schedule got into full swing, and we explored the next-door mall. We spent the bulk of our time in a neat kitchenware store called "Sur la Table," where Beth got a Corona beer bucket after we poked around the neat books, appliances, gizmos, etc. I could spend hundreds on new kitchen toys, but first I need to play with the blender my folks gave me for Hanukkah, which isn't even opened yet!

When she headed home to join moosebraying for the football games, I said goodbye to the last couple of relatives who were setting out, and then hit the road myself. Since I wasn't in any particular rush, this time I decided to swing through College Park and pay a visit to kitchenqueen and sp_jesse and their son Kevin, and the dogs! Joy and I visited them all in December thirteen months ago, a couple of weeks after Kevin was born, and the difference is (not surprisingly) huge! Of course, I've seen them a few times since then, most recently in early October for Watkins Glen Weekend. Since then, he's become much more vocal and is walking around. Seeing all of them was a nice treat.

I'm running out of steam, and work starts again tomorrow, so I shouldn't stay up much longer...
