He's one of my longest-standing clients... probably the longest-standing client I still actively do consulting for. I never raised his rate from $75/hour to $85/hour when our "base" rate went up. After all, he's paying out of his pocket rather than let his company (a law firm) pay.
I asked him how much I should be charging him. "You're worth at least $100 an hour. I should pay you that."
I think I need more lawyers as clients.
