Speaking of modern technology that really enthralls me, I just got off the phone with a computer at FedEx, after arranging a package pickup. The entire conversation took place with voice, no pushing of buttons at all after I dialed 800-GO-FEDEX, and I didn't once talk to a human. It asked what I was calling for, and I said "pickup." It asked for my account number, and I read it off. It asked if the package was ready, and I said "yes." And it asked if the package was being picked up at 120 Maple Avenue, and I said "yes." It gave me a pickup number, asked if I needed anything else, I said "goodbye," and it thanked me and hung up.
