As my brother put it, she didn't want to be treated like a "patient." For that and other reasons, she's been keeping the illness quiet, but she's recently decided to go public and become active as a fundraiser and advocate for leukemia research, and help the thousands of other people battling blood cancers. Not every family is as lucky as we've been, and we know someday she may benefit from the research being conducted now, too.
My mother and brother are both walking in the Light the Night Walk in New York City on October 14th, raising money for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. If you can help, with even a small donation, please support one or both of them with a tax-deductible donation!
