I just donated...

I just sent a donation via Amazon.com's donation page to the American Red Cross to help with disaster relief following the earthquake and tsunamis that devastated portions of Asia and Africa.

The odd personal connection... my cousin Tyler and his wife Lisa were in Thailand when all this began a few days ago. They were fine in Bangkok, but the hotel they were soon going to be staying in in Krabi was washed away. Tyler figured they'd find something on the opposite coast.

If you'd like to catch up on more information about the tsunamis and their effects, with the death toll now past 120,000, or if you'd like to make a donation through one of several relief organizations, check out Google's info page.

My donation wasn't the one that did it, but while I was poking around the Amazon site, they crossed the $7,000,000 mark. I gather the total pledged this week is on the order of 40 million so far. An impressive number, though as ww1614 posted earlier, it pales by comparison to the 5.8 billion we're spending each month on Iraq.
