Thanks to galateadia I read this afternoon about how the moon was going to be spending more time over the next few days near the horizon than it has since 1985, so the moon illusion would make it look even bigger than it usually does near the horizon.

Well, guinness_duck and I certainly saw that on our way back up the hill from dinner. The moon was huge (almost full, I guess) and hovering in the trees, with the sky still surprisingly light for 9pm. After we turned onto Park Lane and came up the hill, facing the other way, the red streaks of clouds in the west, reflecting the just-set sun, were gorgeous.

Sometimes I'm very happy with our planet. That was one of those times.
