My disassembled PowerBook, ready to have the old hard drive taken out and the new one put in. This was way harder than I expected it to be. If I'd looked at the instructions first, I would probably not have ordered the hard drive online, but just sent the damn thing off to Apple.

But now, after about two and a half sweaty hours (even though it's cool in the basement), I'm done. The new hard drive is installed, Tiger is installed and updating itself, and all seems to be working. Once the updates are done, I'll start copying stuff back onto the PowerBook.

Either way, I at least now have a working PowerBook again! Using my work Sony Vaio laptop heavily for several days has left me liking the Vaio more and more, and liking Windows XP less and less.

I consider myself a just-shy-of-expert Windows user; I can provide tech support to the average Windows user. I've used it for years, in each incarnation, and I was a DOS user before I was a Mac user. But I don't like Windows. No matter how much I use it, it's frustrating in little ways that keep adding up. So, I use Windows when I have to; I use Mac OS when I can.

And now I really need to stop staring at the computer screen.
