A new chord...

Thanks to stephania1186 for pointing out this New York Times article about the ongoing performance of a John Cage composition in Halberstadt, Germany. I've known about the performance for quite some time, but hadn't realized that a chord change would occur today... in this musical event scheduled to last 639 years.

The organ performance of the piece "As Slow As Possible" began on September 5th, 2001, to mark what would have been Cage's 89th birthday.

The next chord change is apparently scheduled for 2008. I'd love to visit the church sometime during the performance. Europe already has much more of a sense of permanence, of time being measured in decades and centuries rather than weeks and years, than does the U.S., but this takes things to extremes.
