Jane Wyatt has passed away at 96

Sorry to see, though not hugely surprised, that actress Jane Wyatt passed away on Friday "of natural causes, in her sleep."

She was most famous for "Father Knows Best," but I got to know her first as Amanda Grayson, Spock's mother, on an episode of "Star Trek." She had a minor role as Spock's human parent, which she reprised in "Star Trek IV." That part gave her the chance to flesh out the character a little.

In between, I got to see her at a Trek convention that also featured Leonard Nimoy and Mark Lenard. It was her first, and for all I know, only con appearance. She was a self-deprecating sweetheart, astonished and moved by the warm welcome.
