I'm glad I read the big article in Newsweek a week or so ago about how Wal-Mart was responsible for a huge portion of CFL (compact florescent light) lightbulb sales, and how they're actively pushing them on their shelves. It would never have occurred to me to try buying them there, but since Home Depot and Lowe's have both had anemic selections, especially of the rare dimmable CFLs, I decided to give it a try. Yup, Wal-Mart has dimmable CFLs, for about half the price that Bishop's had. There was no way I was buying $20 light bulbs to "save money."
They also had furnace air filters, I was pleased to see, though only one in the right size and a bit banged up. It should do.
It was certainly easier to hit Wal-Mart after a quick lunch at Ithaca Cheesesteak Emporium than to go all the way out to Home Depot again. I was in the west end to take pictures of Leslie's wood-fired oven, which shows a lot more damage than it should for its relative youth. She's going to show the pictures to the guy who made it in hopes he'll do something about fixing it.
